Since January 23, 2007, the U.S. Government passport agency system has been overloaded
and many people have not been able to get a United States passport in time to
travel. See details at www.newpassportlaws.com.
As an alternative, they are interested in traveling to vacation locations that
do not require a US passport.
If
you need a new US passport but are not in a hurry, how about filling out a form
and submitting the application and then leave for a no passport port to relax.
While that application is working its way through the Government agency for months,
you could be in a spa, on a beach, or RVing around the USA. A
passport is not required to travel to Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands
(St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John), American Samoa, Swains Island and Commonwealth
of Northern Mariana Islands because these are commonwealths or territories of
the U.S. Some people think they need a passport for Hawaii and Alaska but these
are states.
Citizens
of Mexico, Canada, and Bermuda will now have to have a passport to enter the U.S.
There are different
rules and deadlines to get a passport for flying or going by boat and the rules
are changing in 2008 (www.newpassportlaws.com). Be
sure to check when hurricane season is so you can avoid it. | |
